Association Ride to Sturgis, SD - August 12 - 20, 2006

We are planning at least one major Association ride each year. This year it was up to Sturgis, SD. Yes it was the last weekend and we did arrive after the event but that was planned so things would be back to normal, price wise!!!

The ride was and time together as an Association was great. The weather could have been better on the first day up and the return trip but it did keep it from becoming a boring ride!

There are a lot of pictures with this one so I'm making to columns of them just click on any picture to see a bigger version.

Sunshine Just out side of Santa Fe, check out those boots!!!

WeatherGuy and Sunshine at the rest stop outside of Santa Fe!

Taken by Snipe on the road north out of Espanola!

Putting on the rain gear just out of Salida Colorado. Had rain all the way to 20 miles south of Kremmling.

Just out of Leadville, we pulled over to rest and get ready for the long haul to Kremmling. You can see the wet ground and cloudy skies!

Sawbones and Kat at the camp grounds in Kremmling!

The camp grounds and the tents are ready for us. It rained that night along with winds the blue and silver tent moved about a foot!

We all thought that Boats had a small tent!! Those sailors must like small close quarters!!

The day dawned pretty in Kremmling, considering the thunderstorm which passed through the night before.

The next morning in Kremmling, Sawbones and Kat working on "rolling up" the super tent! (It took three of us to get it done!)

Somewhere between Kremmling Colorado and Douglas WY!

Just after breakfast in Douglas, WY and before we hit the road for the final leg to Sturgis.

Don't have any pictures of it, but as we rolled into Gillette, WY Sawbones noticed someone was leaking something. It turned out to be his bikes oil cooler. Added some oil and went to the local dealer, who just happened to be closed! Did a quick fix of by-passing the oil cooler and cleaned the tires of excess oil, there was a lot of it, and headed out to Sturgis.

No Name City camp grounds. Nice place and nice people!

Looking into the camp grounds through the gates. Still a few left from Sturgis Bike Week.

One of the cabins we stayed in. This one was Snipes!

On day 4 we all rode out to the world famous Wall Drug. We found a date for Tumbleweed but her cigar smoking turned him off. She also had a better hand!

Sunshine and Kat tried their luck with the cards but Granny was bluffing!

Kat and Sunshine found a new way of getting around. They just needed the horses to pull it!

Sawbones and Kat from some real bull (buffalo) and grabbed it by the horns!

Snipe shows off his riding skills as a little girl waits her turn to show him up!

Night life around Wall Drug was a little stiff and waxy. A saloon shot from the wax museum.

The OK corral in the wax museum. Nice place to visit when you go to Wall!

On day 5 we went to Sturgis to shop for bargains and found our Postal Dollars being used to their best!

Another shot of the Postal stamp mail truck in Sturgis.

Kat and Sunshine riding off two up on a new design of Harley to come out in 2008! Just kidding!!

Went up to the Crazy Horse Monument after shopping in Sturgis, then on to Mount Rushmore.

What the Crazy Horse Monument will look like when it is done. That's Kat and Sunshine standing in the shadow.

The native dancers putting on a show on the observation deck at Crazy Horse. The dancer in white is going in the military a week or two after this date.

Close up of the final artist rendering of the Crazy Horse Monument.

Tumbleweed and Sawbones watching the Indian dancers.

Mount Rushmore!

Close up with George Washington's' Face!

Close up of Abraham Lincoln's' face.

The Park Service had bomb dogs out. This one even posed for his picture, the dog is the one on the wall without the hat!

There was wild life every where around the visitor center and they had the right away!

Parting shot of the mountain as the sun slowing sets!

Sunshine found some squirrels looking for some to eat. So she protected us "nuts" and scared the squirrel off!

On day 6 we headed out down the Needles Highway, through Custer State Park, and Iron Mountain Road (the Pig Tails). The opening of one of the tunnels on the the Needles Highway. Not very wide!

A little closer than before, you can see a pickup truck getting ready to come from the other side.

Even closer in this time, looks like a beer bottle to me!!

The buffalo were every where in Custer State Park.

They were even on the road all around us.

Brave or foolish? We got out among them, but not too close!

We even ran into the local politicians hitting the campaign trail!

The jackass/donkey working end!

A buffalo calf with mom watching us very closely.

Here we are Tumbleweed, Sawbones, Kat, Sunshine, and Snipe out standing in their field!!

The other side of of group, nice patches!!

Day seven started the ride home. We were so busy we didn't take any pictures. It was raining and foggy all the way out of Sturgis down to Newcastle, WY.

The weather was better down through Wyoming, and we took a break at Lusk and the Outpost Cafe for one of their great cinnamon rolls.

We made it to Cheyenne on day seven and called it a night since there were storms around the Denver area.
Day 8 we started out in Cheyenne with, you guessed it, rain and fog! Rode in it all the way to just outside of Denver where it cleared up and we played tag with other storms all the way south.
We decided to go for Raton. That was a mistake. Didn't have any rain until we hit the Raton Pass. It was raining so hard you couldn't see anything in front of you. I didn't know Harley built boats but I swear we floated through Main Street in Raton!

Raton and the rain in front of our room. That's not a polished parking lot!

Looking out towards the mesas northeast of Raton, on day eight. They really are out there!

Getting ready for the push home. Day nine dawned cloudy but no rain, yet.

Raton looking northeast again. Thought I swear I saw sunshine breaking through but she was just standing next to me!!

Looking west down the parking lot. At least the river wasn't flowing down the middle any more!

Final packing, rain gear on, and we hit the road. Rained on us off and on all the way to Santa Fe. Then finished the trip in rain gear and sunshine.

The six hardy adventurers had made it safely home. We missed our brothers and sisters who couldn't make the ride, but we did it in their honor and hope they will be with us on the next trip.

Had to throw this in there. Sawbones finds a new chopper, just needs a good pair of apes to finish it off!!

Tumbleweed presenting Snipe with his center patch. We felt it was a good way to start the last days ride!

WeatherGuy and Snipe. That rain gear came in handy!!
